DVD-CLONER2 COPY DVD TO DVD-R/DVD+R Order Now

DUP-DVD lets you backup your DVD collection to CD-R discs. With this one-click DVD ripper, it couldn't be easier to backup your video collections.

  • DVD to VCD/SVCD
  • DVD to MPEG
  • DVD to AVI

If you are looking to copy your DVDs with ease and don't want lots of advanced options then Dup-DVD will suit you best. Otherwise, you are probably better off looking elsewhere. Dup-DVD is a basic DVD copying software with a not-so-basic price tag.

Dup-DVD itself is a very small program, downloading in at only 3 MB, probably because of the lack of interface images. When you start the software you get a small window with the source DVD location and the target location. Both are easy to use and have drop down boxes, meaning if you have never used DVD backup software before you will not find it too difficult to get used to Dup-DVD.

Once you have selected what you want to copy it is really just a matter of clicking a small button and you are done. You can copy to either your hard-drive or, alternatively, a backup CD. This is a nice option, and the software allows for you to simulate a burn before doing it.

The interface is very much colorless and feels like most other Windows software programs. It is very user-friendly. However, it would have been nice to see rollover help tips in the event that users get confused with what a feature does.

Dup-DVD is not too unique and does not offer much other more than what most DVD backup software programs on the market offer. It is for this reason that we feel the price tag is slightly heftier than what you would expect to pay.

Dup-DVD uses 2 GB of Windows space despite it being a small file size. This is used for the software's buffer, although this should not be an issue as most modern computers have high space amounts. Dup-DVD rips to AVI and MPEG if you wish for it to. However, the compression ratio on both of these options is bad and as such you are either left with a large file or a bad quality file.

At the time of writing this review you cannot encode in any of the more popular formats such as DivX or Quicktime. We see this as an important issue since it can potentially cost you more due to having to buy compression software.

Dup-DVD has a somewhat average support team. We received a response to our general inquiries a couple of days after it was requested. Dup-DVD offers support only via email. They do, however, have a Frequently Asked Questions page, which covers many of the basic questions you might have.

Dup-DVD does have some smaller features which you can use to make sure the copy comes out just as you intended. For example, Dup-DVD lets you tweak the aspect ratios of videos and the burning speed. Despite this, however, Dup-DVD is not very feature-loaded. For the price tag of around $35 dollars you may find that you need to do more with your DVDs. If so, this is not the right choice of software for you. If, on the other hand, you just want to make sure you don't lose that great home DVD, then Dup-DVD is a good choice.
