X Software's DVDXPress software is truly an “XPress” solution for your basic DVD burning needs. This DVD copying software is a one-click DVD backup tool with minimal features for an affordable price.

If you're in the market for an advanced DVD backup software with loads of features and burning options, you should look elsewhere – perhaps to X Software's DVDXPlatinum, a feature-rich alternative. If, on the other hand, you're looking for a “just press Start” type of DVD copying software, then look no further than to DVDXPress.

When you first run the program, DVDXPress displays a basic interface with just two buttons: Start and
Options. If you click the Options button, the DVDXPress interface expands vertically and presents you with several choices for customizing the DVD burning process.

We like that the Options menu is collapsible. Sometimes you just want to make some exact copies of your DVDs and you don't want to bother with anything else. In this case, the hidden Options menu makes it easy for you to literally press Start and wait for your DVD movie to copy.

If you prefer to explore your DVD copying options, though, simply click the Options button and you'll be able to adjust the audio language, subtitles, and video format – wide screen or full screen – for your DVD backups. And if you'd like to save your settings, DVDXPress lets you store your chosen options via the “Save as Default” button.

Unfortunately, if a DVD backup is too large to fit on one disc, DVDXPress does not allow you to split the copied files and distribute them over several discs. In this case, your only option is to backup your movie without all of the extras.

DVDXPress gives you the option to copy DVD movies from either a source disc or from your hard drive. If you've got MPEG or AVI movies backed up on your computer, this is a great feature to have, since there is no need to purchase or download additional software.

DVDXPress on its own cannot copy commercially-made DVDs with embedded copy protections, though a CSS decryption software like SlySoft's AnyDVD resolves this problem without any hassles.

As with DVDXPlatinum, X Software offers free live e-mail and telephone support for DVDXPress. When we contacted them via e-mail, we got a response the same day.

In the end, if you're going to opt for the X Software brand, you've got two options: DVDXPlatinum or DVDXPress. If you're sure that you'll never need anything more than a few added features on a basic DVD burning software to backup your DVD movies, then DVDXPress is undoubtedly the wiser choice.

If, on the other hand, you'd like to have more advanced options available to you on your DVD burning software, go with DVDXPlatinum, which features both Simple and Advanced modes for the DVD copying process.

Pros:
Straight-forward, basic interface
Added options for determining language, subtitles and video format of your DVD backups
Lets you copy movie only or entire DVD
Affordable price

Cons:
Minimal customization options for advanced users
Does not allow for splitting of large DVD files into multiple discs
