Lost Data Recovery
Even in cyber space, accidents happen

Even with the best of intentions, people make mistakes. We think that we have clicked the right button or we believe that we have selected the right information to delete.

Occasionally, data is inadvertently deleted

Once the overwhelming feeling of dismay passes, it’s time to begin your search for a data recovery program. Fortunately, computer technology has provided computer users with several options for recovering lost data and files.

Most data recovery applications work with three simple or basic procedures

Data recovery files are capable of scanning your computer for the lost data. They are capable of selecting the files or data for recovery. Finally, they are fully capable of copying the data, files, or folders to a new location.

Although many options exist for the recovery of your mistakenly deleted files, only a few choices exist for possible setups for the process. Which choice you select will depend on the initial setup of your computer plus personal preference, level of skill, or use of an outside technician.

Although many data recovery applications require specific operating systems for installation, they are capable of recovering lost data, files, and folders from other operating systems. In fact, many data recovery applications contain sophisticated features that allow the computer user to customize the scan be selecting either a quick or a full scan. Additionally, should it be necessary, the recovery process can often be interrupted and restarted.

Data recovery applications often generate reports. Commonly, the recovered files can be displayed in an alphabetical order for easy sorting. Some applications also feature sorting by date, time, or size capacity of the data, files, or folders. In turn, some applications may not recover the names of particular files, specifically, picture files. In most instances though, the time and date may be recovered with the file.

The following are the choices for a recovery setup:

• Recover the files to a separate partition on the existing hard drive.
• Recover the files to a separate hard drive.
• Recover the files to a networked storage drive.
• Recover the files by imaging the hard drive.

It is essential that you realize that recovery programs will recover an extensive amount of data. Therefore, it is important to have sufficient space for copying the recovered data and files. Some data recovery applications will even recover data from the web browser cache.

Data recovery applications are typically user friendly, provided that you read the instructions and follow them. The programs are easy to use, allowing even less sophisticated computer users an option for recovering their list data.

The best data recovery programs are capable of searching and finding lost data from several types of media

... including portioned drives, entire hard drives, external devices, floppy diskettes, and digital media devices. This includes USB drives and portables, memory sticks, flash memory, SmartMedia, and CompactFlash. When selecting a recovery application, however, it is essential that you check to see what its specific capabilities are.

It is important to keep in mind when purchasing your data recovery program that a certain amount of RAM and free space for installation will be required. Additionally, some programs might require a specific processor.
