Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP

PowerToys – the name makes you think, doesn’t it? What in the world is that? Well, the developers at Microsoft came out with some additional programs after Windows XP was released that add functionality and fun to your Windows experience.

Microsoft does not support them since they are not part of Windows, but they ensure that they work. They only work for Windows XP. You must uninstall your old Power Toys before putting the new ones in if you got them before April 23, 2002. They are only compatible with U.S. English regional settings.

Microsoft PowerToys Options

• Color Control Panel Applet – is a new tool that assist you in managing all of Windows color settings from one place. This gives you accurate and consistent color, which is needed for better results. It maintains consistency from file to screen, screen to print, and beyond if needed. It makes it very convenient having it all available in one place.

• SyncToy – assist you in copying, synchronizing, and moving different directories. This includes files from email, PDAs, digital cameras, portable media players, laptops, and cell phones.

• RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer – gives you previews, printing, thumbnails, and metadata display for RAW images. It gives you the ability to work with digital RAW files and organize them in Windows Explorer. You can work with them as you do JPEG images with this PowerToy.

• ClearType Tuner - is installed in your Control Panel to be easily accessible. It gives you the ability to use ClearType technology making it easier to see text on your screen.

• HTML Slide Show Wizard – this PowerToy assist you in designing an HTML slide show of your digital pictures. These can be put on your website or other places on the Internet.

• Open Command Window Here – adds this context menu option to your file system folders. This gives you a fast way to open a command window. All you have to do is point at the desired folder.

• ALT-Tab Replacement – is a PowerToy that gives you not only the ability to view the icon of the application window you want to switch to, but also a preview of it. This makes it easy when you are using multiple sessions of the same application.

• Tweak UI – allow you to have access to system settings in the user interface that are not XP default settings. Included are taskbar settings, mouse settings, Explorer settings, and more. Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP Service Pack are required for Version 2.10

• Power Calculator – gives you the power to perform several types of conversions along with the ability to graph and evaluate functions.

• Image Resizer – permits you to use a right-click to resize one or more image file.

• CD Slide Show Generator - this PowerToy enables you to see images from a burned CD as a slide show.

• Virtual Desktop Manager – makes it possible to use the Windows taskbar to manage up to four desktops.

• Taskbar Magnifier – can be used to magnify part of the screen. It is located in the taskbar as the name implies.

• Webcam Timershot – this PowerToy will save pictures in a designated location after taking them from a Webcam at specified time intervals.
