Error message: iexplore.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows… Sound familiar? Description – iexplore.exe is the main running process belonging to the Microsoft Internet Explorer application. Internet Explorer is a Windows based and created Internet browser that can be used to connect to the Internet, surf the web, download files, and much more. As such it is a popular and often essential component of users' systems. The iexplore.exe process is not considered a critical component of the Windows operating system, however, to enjoy problem free browsing users are advised to leave the process as enabled on their PC. This ensures that you can gain full access to the Internet without errors. If located in a subfolder of the Program Files folder then this is the genuine article belonging to your browser. However, at least one Trojan also uses this process name in a bid to dupe users into believing it is the genuine article and leaving it to run on their system. Generally, if iexplore.exe is found within the system32 subdirectory then it should be considered a threat. This Trojan can be used to gain access to your system, steal personal information, and alter system and application settings. For this reason, if your antivirus or antispyware application identifies iexplore errors as being caused by a security threat it should be removed immediately. Associated Errors – The genuine instance of iexplore should not, under normal operating circumstances, cause any errors. However, the iexplore Trojan may cause numerous errors. These include, but are not necessarily limited to, a decrease in system performance, and an increase in system usage even when you are not running Internet Explorer. Recommended Solution – To manually determine whether iexplore errors are being caused by a Trojan you can close down Internet Explorer and then end the iexplore task from within the Windows Task Manager. If it reappears then it is highly likely that you are infected with spyware. In this case you should run antispyware software and remove all infections it finds to ensure you have a clean system that is able to run smoothly.
