How to fix JavaScript errors JavaScript Description Javascript is a powerful scripting language that is often deployed on websites and the Internet. It is used to create functional and powerful websites and functions, and is often used as a method to create dynamic web pages quickly and easily. While Javascript can be disabled in many modern browsers it is still a very popular choice for web programmers and developers because of the ease and functionality that it provides. Javascript can, however, be used by spammers and unscrupulous Webmasters. A popular use of Javascript in this instance is to force you to remain on a particular website or force your browser to redirect to another site. Some websites will automatically open new browser windows with websites that you don't recognize either when you attempt to close the page or even when you pass the cursor over a certain area of the page. Because of this use of Javascript some over zealous antivirus applications and antispyware applications can interfere with the proper and accurate use of Javascript in your browser. You may also be calling older versions of pages if they are stored in your Internet cache. Both of these problems can be counteracted. Javascript Associated Errors Typically you will receive errors through your browser stating that a Javascript function is not defined. You will also struggle to view or use any section of a site or application that uses Javascript coding. Other errors may also popup when attempting to run a Javascript based function on your desktop. Recommended Solution If the errors are caused by your antivirus or other security application then you should receive relevant error messages. In this case you will need to manually alter the settings within the application. In the worst case scenario it may be necessary to change application for one that is less prohibitive of Javascript functions. If error messages are browser based then you should clear your Internet cache to ensure that you are using the latest versions of the Javascript functions and of the pages themselves. This is done in the following way: Firefox – From the Tools menu click Clear Private Data, ensure that the box next to Cache is ticked and then click the Clear Private Data now button. Internet Explorer – From the Tools menu click Internet Options and ensure that the General tab is selected (usually selected by default). Click Delete Files, ensure that the Delete All Offline Content box is ticked and then click OK.
