msi.dll Description – msi.dll, short for MicroSoft Installer, is used to install applications that use the Windows installer. While it is possible to accurately continue using the Windows operating system without this file it is highly recommended that you do not remove or disable this file in any way if you wish to install any applications on your computer. If msi.dll is believed to be causing errors on your system then it can be removed but a clean copy of the link library should be reinstalled immediately in order to ensure that you enjoy the functionality that Windows installer offers when adding new applications to your system. It is also possible that some spyware or viruses can use the msi.dll name in order to download onto your system and remain there. Malicious threats use genuine file names in order to prevent users from deleting the file. Recommended Solution – If you believe that msi.dll is causing errors on your machine then you should remove it and reinstall a clean copy. However, if it is not believed to be causing any errors then it should be left enabled and resident on your computer. Its removal will prevent you from using the Windows installer.
