Smartbridge.exe
Description – smartbridge.exe is the main running process for the SmartBridge diagnostic tool. This tool is included with various broadband connections and is used to help identify and combat problems. Upgrading to Internet Explorer 7 saw numerous problems with the SmartBridge application. Some broadband browsers were releasing an old version of an essential DLL and starting IE7 resulted in error messages related to the smartbridge.exe process. Associated Errors – BT were providing browsers that included an old version of PSAPI.DLL subprogram. This file is found within the BT software folder and because it exists the application will use this in preference to the newer, more updated version that also exists in the Windows System 32 folder. Recommended Solution – The quickest and easiest solution for this problem is to bypass the DLL provided by BT. In order to manage this locate the PSAPI.DLL file within the BT folder and rename it but do not delete it. Restart your computer and when you next attempt to run IE7 using your BT connection, the program will bypass this old version of PSAPI and will, instead, use the new version that is in the System32 folder of your computer. There was also a known problem with the NTL broadband medic that caused similar errors. In order to combat these you should first check for updates to your software from NTL. These issues have been resolved, and installing a later version of Internet Explorer or the latest patches for the NTL software will fix this issue.
