Spam Controls Introduction

Spam Controls is a powerful anti spam application with one of the best recognition and prevention rates in the industry. By installing the program on one computer it is possible for all users to enjoy this level of protection against some of the more undesirable emails that we receive, as regular Internet users. Posting your email address in the wild of the Internet can mean a sudden barrage of unsolicited marketing email and also phishing emails that are little more than thinly veiled attempts to extort personal and financial information from recipients.

Installing The Application And Other Features Of Spam Controls

To enjoy the full features that Spam Controls has to offer it is obviously necessary to first install the application on your computer. In doing so, the Spam Controls toolbar and a PL Spam Controls email folder, are added to your email application. Spam Controls works with both Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express providing the protection you require regardless of the email client you use.

Administrator Privileges

In order to install any software package you need to be logged on as an administrator with the appropriate privileges. Not all accounts or users on your computer have these privileges, although at least one user should have. Even if this is not the case it is still possible to log on in this way so that you can install the Spam Controls application.

Determining Administrator Accounts On Your Computer

In order to determine whether you are logged on as an administrator you can use the Windows Control Panel.

1 - Click Start

2 - Click Control Panel

3 - In the Control Panel click on the User Accounts option

This brings up a list of all users on your computer. In most circumstances each of the users will have one of two different statuses under the username. If the status is “limited account” then this user is not an administrator and is not able to install Spam Controls. However, if the user status is “computer administrator” then you have full administrator privileges and are able to install software.

The quickest option, where available, is to log on as one of the users that has administrator privileges.

Logging On As The Main Computer Administrator

It is also possible to log on to the main administrator account, using a process that is relatively simple to perform.

1 - Click the Start button

2 - Click Log Off

3 - Click the Switch User option if it is enabled (the vast majority of home computers will have this feature enabled)

4 - When on the Welcome screen hold down Ctrl + Alt + Delete

5 - In the Log On screen enter “username” as username and, if you set a password when you first installed Windows enter this as the password, otherwise leave the password field blank. Click OK to complete the Log On process.

Summary

You are now logged on as the main administrator for your computer and you will be able to install Spam Controls as normal. It is advised that you do not remain in this account once you have finished and, instead, revert back to your usual user account for everyday computer activity, especially any activity that involves logging on to the Internet.
