Will this Free Tool really Keep Your Sensitive Information Safe?

How Much Spyware Do You Think Is On Your Computer?
Unless you are very familiar with spyware, taking a guess at how much spyware is liable to be on your computer would be like shooting an arrow in the dark … you will likely be way off the mark. If you are unprotected, you leave your computer open to new spyware viruses every single day. And, since they stick around until you remove them, this means that you can potentially add hundreds of new spyware programs to your computer each and every day. This is the prime reason why it is essential to get a comprehensive spyware solution, like the one that Spybot provides. Remember, the longer a program lurks on your computer, the more information it will be able to gather.

What Does Spybot Protect You Against?
Spyware - Programs that hide on your computer and secretly record what you do while you are surfing the Internet. Many times these programs are used for advertising purposes.

Viruses - programs that ‘infect’ your computer with the intent of harming it in some way. These programs reproduce themselves in order to have the ability to infect multiple files.

Adware - This type of program is often installed on your computer when you accept a free download of another software program. It will give you pop-up advertisements while you are running the free program -- and sometimes when you are not.

Phishing - When someone tries to get you to reveal sensitive information by pretending that they are a trusted source (i.e. your bank, Paypal, eBay, etc). Phishers often use the information they collect for their own gain.

Trojans - This program is much like a virus and is often downloaded into a computer when a user thinks that he is downloading something else. For example, if you downloaded a video game, you could actually download a Trojan instead. However, unlike viruses, Trojans cannot replicate themselves in order to infect multiple files.

Backdoors - This type of program utilizes Trojans to allow a person access to your computer without your knowledge. With this access they can find information on your computer that is for your eyes only.

Malware - Is a nick name for ‘malicious software’. This software is placed on your computer with the intent of doing damage to your system. If you are infected with malware, it may take hundreds or thousands of dollars to fix, depending on how expensive your system is. Malware can include viruses, Trojans, or any other program designed to do you harm.

Hijacking - When someone ‘takes over’ your Internet session and is able to operate as if they are you. This can happen when you are on an unsecured network (which is why it is important that you ensure that a site is protected with an SSL (Secure Socket Layer) before you give out sensitive information.

Hacking - When someone gains access to your system without you knowing and can have access to everything on your computer. Much like a backdoor.

Remember, just searching your computer is not enough, unless you want to run a scan after every single website you visit -- as that is the only way other spyware removers can be as effective as Spybot Search and Destroy.
The most important feature Spybot offers is that it tells you when a site might be infected immediately. Having these alerts about harmful websites -- why you still have the opportunity to act, before they log any of your moves -- is just as important as being able to scan for programs which are already there.
