An Introduction To Task Manager

The task manager provides information about the various programs and processes that are currently running on your computer. It also provides a way to measure the current performance of your computer as well as the performance and current system requirements for each of the running processes. If any programs have ceased responding then the task manager is the place where you can perform a hard close of the application. It also performs other tasks including switching programs, viewing your network status, and more. The control panel is easily access by holding “Ctrl”, “Alt”, and pressing “Delete” on your computer keyboard.

What Are Task Manager Errors

Task manager errors are not as commonplace as many other computer errors, but they still cause a problem when they do occur. The most common of task manager errors displays the following message when you attempt to open the task manager in the normal way:

“Task manager has been disabled by your administrator”

Despite the slightly misleading content of the error message, this task manager error occurs because DisableTaskMgr value in your Windows registry has been set to 1 instead of 0. This can happen because of spyware or viruses that attack the registry or simply because of corrupt registry data. There are two potentially useful methods you can try in order to manually resolve this issue. Depending on the operating system and the reason that the error has occurred, one or both may prove successful.

Using The Registry Editor

On the “Start” menu click “Run” and type in “Regedit.exe”. Navigate the following path:

• HKCU or HKEY_Current_User
• Software
• Microsoft
• Windows
• CurrentVersion
• Policies
• System

In the right section of the window double click the “DisableTaskMgr” option and change the setting to “0”.

The Group Policy Editor

This method only works in XP Professional edition. One the “Start” menu click “Run” and type in “gpedit.msc” and then click “OK” or press “Enter”. Navigate the following path:

• User Configuration
• Administrative Templates
• System
• Ctrl+Alt+Delete Options

Double click the Remove Task Manager option and change the setting to “Not Configured”.

In most cases one of these manual fixes should fix the system32 error problem. Unfortunately, if your registry has become corrupt for any reason then this error is only likely to be a symptom. Fixing the root cause of the problem is essential if you don’t want errors like this to keep appearing and causing problems.

Recommended Software

RegCure is a powerful registry cleaner. Virtually every time you make any changes to your Windows operating system or any of the software that is on your computer it is likely that errors and changes will be made to the registry. Spyware and other malicious software can also create problems with the registry that are difficult to fix manually. RegCure performs a deep scan of your computer and, in particular, the registry. Once the scan is completed RegCure will then fix any problems it has found.

Task Manager Error Conclusions

The task manager is a useful and often vital component of a Windows operating system. It performs several functions including monitoring the performance and CPU usage of every process that is running on your computer. While task manager errors are not the most common computer error they still cause a problem when they do occur. The most common is an error message that states task manager has been disabled. There are two potential fixes for this, but neither is likely to fix the reason that the error occurred in the first place. RegCure is a powerful registry cleaner that will not only fix this particular problem but will ensure that your registry is clean and your computer performing at its best.
