Vista – The Five Editions Explored
Microsoft’s Windows Vista is their newest operating system
and will be widely available at the end of January 2007.
This design has dramatically improved the experience for all
computer users. Windows Vista is available in five different
editions. Making it useable for all types of people, from
the basic home user, business owner to the scientist who
regularly uses it for analysis of complex mathematics. Each
edition is designed for the specific needs of each type of
person. The five editions available are as follows:
1) Windows Vista Home Basic
This edition is as the name implies, the “basic” home
edition good for simple computer needs. This edition is easy
to set up; it assists you in using your system more securely
and reliably. As with all the editions of Vista, it is
compatible with the broadest range of devices, software, and
services that you trust and use. Windows Vista Home Basic
edition was designed for such tasks as surfing the Internet,

includes all that is in the Basic edition along with help in
using your desktop or laptop computer more effectively.
Windows Vista Home Premium edition enables you to enjoy new

added reliability and security. Suggested retail price for

4) Windows Vista Ultimate
This is the most comprehensive edition of Windows Vista.
This edition truly does “have it all”! It combines all the

the consumer-focused digital entertainment features. This is
the ultimate operating system for the user who works on the
road, at home, on business, and entertainment. It includes
all the previous mentioned features from the different
editions plus it includes Windows BitLocker Drive
Encryption, which protects your data from loss or theft.

5) Windows Vista Enterprise
This edition of Windows was designed for the large, global
organizations. It was created for the complex IT
infrastructures. Its design greatly lowers IT risk and cost.
It includes all features you get in the Windows Vista
Business edition along with higher levels of data protection
incorporated using hardware-based encryption technology.
There are tools to enable organizations to conform using a
single worldwide deployment image. This edition is only
available to those customers who have computers with a
Microsoft Enterprise Agreement or covered by Microsoft
Software Assurance. It is not available for retail purchase.
Any of these systems are good. It depends on what you want
to use your computer for as to which one to get. When
purchasing a computer before the end of January 2007, (at
this time most new systems will carry Vista), make certain
to look for the Windows Vista Capable or Premium Ready PC
logo and make sure the computer you get is eligible for an
Express Upgrade to Windows Vista if it does not have Vista
already.
